Best Camera Settings for Bird Boxes

Recommended Setup

For most bird boxes, we recommend:

  • motion detection enabled

  • moderate notifications

  • occasional live viewing rather than constant monitoring

Simple settings usually provide the best experience.

Too Many Notifications?

If you receive too many alerts, try:

  • lowering motion sensitivity slightly

  • using scheduled notifications

  • avoiding moving branches near the entrance hole

Night Vision Tips

Night vision works best when:

  • the lens is clean

  • the camera is not too close to walls

  • reflective surfaces are minimised

Reducing Disturbance

Birds usually adapt very well to discreet nest box cameras.

For best results:

  • install the bird box before nesting season

  • avoid opening the box unnecessarily

Will Sound Disturb Birds?

Simply watching live view will not play sound through the camera.

Sound is only transmitted if the talk/intercom function is turned on in the app.

Recommended Bird Box Placement

For most UK gardens:

  • place the box 2–4 metres above ground

  • avoid strong midday sun

  • avoid strong winds where possible

  • choose a quieter location if possible
